Eighty five dBA gives more headroom when background noise makes speech difficult, but it should not become the permanent default just because it sounds more exciting.

Charge fully, note the date, keep lights in the intended state and log approximate listening hours until the low battery warning. Repeat once. That produces a useful household expectation and reveals whether standby drain is material.
Test the low battery warning with the child present. It should be understandable without being frightening or excessively loud.
