The first-generation AirPods Pro with a MagSafe case can look like an easy bargain. The shape is familiar, the case is small and the Apple connection story is attractive. But an older pair of true wireless earbuds needs a different buying calculation from a new cable or charger. Battery condition, the exact case and the identity of both earbuds can matter as much as the original feature list.
This review covers the 2021 first-generation AirPods Pro package at ASIN B09JQMJHXY. It is not AirPods Pro 2. Adding MagSafe to the case did not turn the earbuds into the second generation. Keep that distinction in view when reading about newer controls, charging options or software features.
The original package still has a clear purpose
Apple’s technical specifications for AirPods Pro 1 with MagSafe Charging Case identify the 2021 package. The documented design includes active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, silicone eartips and a case that charges through Lightning or compatible wireless charging. Those features describe a portable listening product with a convenient charging case, rather than a miniature work headset for every situation.
The appeal for an iPhone owner is the potential for a familiar setup and control experience. That is a reason to consider the product family. It is not evidence that a particular used pair connects reliably, holds a useful charge or has genuine matching parts. Those are questions about the actual item being sold.
I would start by comparing the complete price with newer alternatives from a seller with clear returns. Old stock can be attractive, but age is not erased by a sealed-looking box. For used units, ask what is included and whether the seller can demonstrate ordinary setup and charging. A vague description of AirPods Pro is not enough to identify this package.

The fit is the first personal test
Silicone tips are a significant difference from open-fit AirPods. They give you a way to adjust the fit, but no tip size is correct for everyone. Try the supplied options gently and use Apple’s documented fit-check process where available. The goal is a stable, comfortable seal, not the tightest possible feeling.
Listen at a comfortable level with a familiar voice and a few pieces of music. If the sound seems thin or the noise control changes sharply when you move, check the fit before drawing a conclusion. You may need different tip sizes in the two ears. That is a practical adjustment, not a sign that you have misunderstood the product.
Comfort needs time. A pair that feels secure for two minutes can become irritating during a long commute. Try the activity you actually expect to do, including walking and ordinary head movement. If the earbuds repeatedly loosen or cause discomfort, take that result seriously rather than hoping a popular product will eventually suit your ears.
This review does not include a personal fit or listening test, so it cannot promise comfort, a particular sound balance or a superior seal. The useful conclusion from the design is that fit is adjustable and should be checked. The intended listener’s experience needs to decide whether that adjustment is enough.
Noise control is useful when you understand it
ANC and Transparency mode address different situations. One aims to reduce surrounding noise during listening; the other helps you hear the environment through the earbuds. Learn the documented controls before relying on them during a journey. A feature is more useful when you can select it without repeatedly looking at the phone.
Compare modes with the music level held steady. Otherwise it is easy to confuse a louder track with a more effective setting. Try spoken content as well as music if podcasts or lessons form a large part of your listening. The practical question is whether you can follow the programme comfortably in your usual surroundings.
Do not assume that a mode makes every sound disappear or that it is the right choice in every outdoor setting. Choose a volume and mode that let you manage the environment. At a station or airport, make sure you can hear the information you need. Convenience should support a journey rather than make ordinary tasks harder.
The older model should also be judged against its own documented features. Do not borrow a newer AirPods Pro review’s conclusions about cancellation, adaptive behaviour or microphone processing. Similar appearance is not a performance comparison. This review contains no measured ANC results, so any ranking against current products would require further evidence.
Battery condition can decide the value
Apple’s original playback claims describe a new product under stated conditions. They are not a guarantee for a pair that has spent years in use or storage. An ageing battery can change the entire experience of a product built around short listening sessions and recharging in a case.
Ask about both earbuds and the case. A case that holds charge does not prove that each earbud lasts through a useful session. Nor does a brief demonstration establish that one side will not run down much sooner than the other. If buying used, a clear return route is especially valuable because battery behaviour takes longer to assess than the condition of the plastic.
After purchase, charge the system and try a normal listening session with the settings you expect to use. Note whether both earbuds last long enough and whether they charge consistently when returned to the case. Repeat enough of your ordinary routine to know whether the pair is dependable for your needs. That is more useful than a battery icon photographed by a seller.
Include any service or replacement cost you can verify for your country in the comparison. If a bargain pair immediately needs work, its low purchase price may no longer make sense. Check current Apple service options rather than assuming small earbuds can be repaired in the same way as over-ear headphones with replaceable pads.
MagSafe does not mean USB-C
The 2021 package’s MagSafe case still uses Lightning for its wired connection. That matters if your other devices have moved to USB-C. You may welcome the wireless option, but you still need to plan how the case will be charged at a desk, while travelling and when a wireless pad is unavailable.
Use the charging options documented for this exact case. Do not assume that every charging method supported by a later AirPods Pro case also applies here. Similar white cases can have different capabilities. Confirm the model before buying a charging accessory specifically for it.
Keep the case and its cable in a regular place. True wireless earbuds are easy to enjoy when returning them to charge is automatic. They become frustrating when the case lives at the bottom of a different bag. The small physical routine matters as much as the convenience described in a product demonstration.
When checking a used pair, inspect the charging port and the contacts without probing them with sharp objects. Confirm that both earbuds seat and charge normally. A case that closes neatly is not enough if one earbud repeatedly fails to charge overnight. Treat intermittent charging as a problem to resolve within the return period.
Calls, devices and everyday care
For calls, test with the phone and computer you actually use. Select the intended input and output in the calling app, then ask another person how your voice sounds. A clear music connection does not establish call quality. This review does not include microphone recordings, so I would not buy this older pair solely on an unverified promise of professional call performance.
Check current system requirements for features that matter to you. An Apple product can offer different functionality across supported devices and software versions. If a particular switching or accessibility feature is the reason for buying, verify it for this generation rather than relying on a general AirPods headline.
Clean and dry the earbuds using Apple’s instructions, especially before putting them back in the case. Water resistance does not make routine washing appropriate. For a used purchase, hygiene and the condition of the tips deserve attention alongside electronics. Replacement tips need to fit the correct model properly.
My verdict is cautious about value rather than dismissive of the design. A genuine, well-kept first-generation pair with a useful battery and a clear return policy can still serve a straightforward listening routine. A vague listing with unknown battery condition is a much weaker proposition. Confirm the generation and case, try the fit and assess a real session. The condition of the pair in front of you should decide the purchase.
